I’m in Palm Beach for the 4th of July weekend. John Dawe, who I worked with at Solid Cactus, and I were scheduled fly out of Scranton this morning, but our 8am flight was delayed. US Air booked us on a later flight that had us coming in around 7pm. Since I got up at 6am, there was no way I was going to be sitting around all day in an airport, so we drove to Allentown to hop on an AirTran flight to Ft. Lauderdale.
On the 4th, we’ll be heading down to the Boca Raton Resort & Club for a party at the Beach Club and to watch the fireworks on the beach. Pics and video will be sure to follow!

Today’s vlog comes to you from the cabin on an AirTran Boeing 717. Me and my traveling companion, John Dawe, were scheduled to fly out of Scranton to Palm Beach this morning on US Airways, however our flight was canceled.
So we rented a car and flew out of Allentown on AirTran.
My airline of choice lately has been Continental, although I have to admit, the Newark airport experience makes me think twice everytime I book a ticket., and going through Philadelphia with US Air isn’t on the top of my list either.
This isn’t my first time flying AirTran. When they offered non-stop service from Newburgh NY to Palm Beach I flew them quite frequently, but they discontinued that route. Today we’re flying into Fort Lauderdale – a little out of the way, but not bad.
Here in business class, the seats are leather and very comfortable. Not quite like business first on continental’s 757-200 which I normally fly on, but very good none the less.
I was excited to see an ad card for wi-fi internet access in the seat pocket when I got on board and planned on doing email and surfing the web once we got airborne, but the flight attendant told me this plane isn’t equipped with wi-fi just yet.
Which makes me beg the question, why put one of these in the seat if there is no wi-fi!
Personally, I’m a fan of the 717 for quite a few reasons – the 2 x 3 cabin layout in coach is nice compared to the 3 x 3 design of the 737 and 757. I find the 717 to be a quieter aircraft since the engines are at the tail rather then on the wings. The 100% fresh air cabin is great compared to the recycled air of the other planes.
AirTran is rather impressive as well. The snack choices were great in business class, I even got some TGI Friday’s branded potato skins and some low-carb fruit punch that had a horrible after taste, so I switched to Cherry Coke. AirTran happens to be the only airline I know that serves Cherry Coke and that’s a plus for me That and the fact that John bought a new bathing suit this morning on the way to the airport. This way I don’t have to look at him laying on the beach in a thong for the next 5 days. Thanks John.
