I had the opportunity to sail on the largest ocean liner in the world, Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2, two times. Being on that remarkable vessel was an amazing experience that I will never forget. The size of the ship as well as the luxury within was simply unforgettable. While Queen Mary 2 remains the largest in the “ocean liner” category, a new, mammoth cruise ship has arrived.
Royal Caribbean is introducing “Oasis of the Seas” to the world Friday morning on Good Morning America during a special live broadcast from the ship. Those of us in South Florida had the opportunity to see the ship for about a week now, if only from a distance.
“Oasis of the Seas” has been berthed at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale since her arrival last Friday. Since then she has caused traffic jams on I-95 as onlookers have attempted to sneak a peek at the world’s largest cruise ship. From the port she towers over other ships berthed next to her, afterall, she can carry almost 6,000 passengers! I’ve attempted to get a close look at her at Port Everglades, but there is a strict “no visitors” policy in effect.
So if you can’t get up close on the ground, get up close (sort of) from the air! I took these photos of “Oasis of the Seas” today from about 5,000 feet up. You can see how she dwarfs the other two cruise ships in port along with her.
My friend and travel agent, Joanne, is scheduled to be on a shake-down cruise right after Thanksgiving and I have to say – Joanne, I’m jealous!
