Get ready for the opening of Pandoa – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
Bob Iger, Walt Disney Company CEO, announced the new land will open on May 27, 2017 during an investor conference call earlier today.
Disney Parks Blog quickly followed up with information on what visitors can expect – besides long lines – when Pandora opens Memorial Day weekend:
This new land will transport guests to the visually stunning world of Pandora. Here, guests will wonder at floating mountains and bioluminescent plants, and can join the Na’vi on two excursions that take adventure to the next level.
First, the family friendly Na’vi River Journey will send guests through a bioluminescent rainforest. Their journey will end in an unforgettable encounter with a Na’vi Shaman, a figure who has a deep connection to the life force of Pandora. And second, Avatar Flight of Passage will offer guests the jaw-dropping experience of exploring the world of Pandora atop a Banshee.
Iger also announced that the Star Wars-themed lands at both Disneyland in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando will open in 2019 – although a specific date has been set.
According to Disney Parks Blog:
At each location, guests will be transported to a never-before-seen planet – a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space – where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.
Hollywood Studios will also be home to a Toy Story themed land, although Iger did not mention when that is expected to open. Visitors to Hollywood Studios have seen quite a bit of construction while these two lands are being built. But with a 2019 opening date for Star Wars land, it appears the construction walls will be up for a while yet.
