A last minute invite led me to a craft beer bar with several locations across Florida on Tuesday night. My friend picked me up and off we went to The Brass Tap in Boynton Beach.
The Brass Tap’s mission is to “create a premium beer experience for the world” with the company’s founders wanting the Tap to be the “ultimate beer bar.”
With the craft beer market exploding, more and more of these concepts are popping up. Some do it right, some don’t. Some serve just beer, some serve beer and food. In the case of The Brass Tap, they serve over 300 craft beers from around the world and have a full lunch and dinner menu.
The Brass Tap in Boynton Beach has plenty of bar and indoor seating as well as an outdoor patio. On this particular evening, the bar and dining room were pretty much full when we arrived around 8:15 pm and remained that way until we left a little after ten.
Let’s talk food. Appetizers include some standards like fried shrimp, onion rings, nachos and wings in addition to some unique items such as house-made hushpuppies and soft pretzels with different dips. Sliders, flatbreads, and salads round out the first half of the menu.
When it comes to the main event, there’s about eight burgers and sandwiches as well as three varieties of tacos (beef, chicken, and fish).
The menu isn’t fancy, but you shouldn’t have a problem finding something that will satisfy everyone in your party. For the picky, there’s always the old standby – chicken tenders or fish and chips.
On this particular evening, it was Taco Tuesday. While the menu itself advertised a $9.99 all-you-can-eat taco deal ($6 cheaper than Rocco’s Tacos), I was told that is no longer offered and the special was changed to $2 beef, chicken or fish tacos and $3 prime rib tacos – a similar offering to Uncle Julio’s.
The other folks we were meeting were just finishing up a smorgasbord of food laid out across the bar. They’re a group that visits frequently and can rattle off the beer menu just as well as the staff. By looking at the empty plates and smiles on their faces, their dinner was great!
Wanting to take advantage of the night’s special, I went with some of the beef, chicken and prime rib tacos. They all come with a good helping of chips and salsa at no additional cost. Each is topped with lettuce, cheddar jack and pepper jack cheese, a cilantro/onion mix, tomatoes and a Poblano sauce.
The tacos were well stuffed with the protein and not overloaded with the greens. My only complaint about them revolved around the tortilla. While a soft tortilla, it was a little stiff – not in a stale way, but in a way that it was left on the press a little too long.
Overall, they were good and a great value. Keep this on your rotating list of places to check out when you need your Taco Tuesday fix.
The Brass Tap in Boynton Beach also has Happy Hour deals that run Monday – Friday from 4-7 and include two chicken tacos, onion straws or a five-cheese flatbread for $4; hushpuppies, tater tots with cheese, or pretzel pieces with cheese for $5; five-cheese mac & cheese or Boom Boom Shrimp for $6; and hot wings, prime rib sliders, or chicken nachos for $7.
In addition to the Taco Tuesday deal, they have a $5 burger offered on Mondays as well as other food specials and featured events, such as trivia, bingo and more, throughout the month.
This first visit will definitely turn into additional ones – and not just on Tuesdays! Check out their website for additional locations, the beer list and food menu.
