There’s a commercial currently airing on TV that has fans of the kids program Sesame Street smiling. Delta Faucets enlisted the talent of Jerry Nelson, who is the voice of “Count von Count” on the PBS series to sing in their “Hands” commercial promoting their new Touch2O technology.
The commercial itself is simple, yet elegant. But it’s not the faucet that has people taking notice, it’s that voice, it’s that song. Delta scored a win by using a familiar voice, a catchy tune (that was an actual Sesame Street skit) to subliminally take us back to our childhood and sell us a product. With the Count’s Bela Lugosi style accent and the Romani music that always accompanied him, anyone familiar with Sesame Street immediately made the connection.
Will the Count sell faucets? I can’t find any numbers that show if this campaign was a success for Delta or not. But judging by the chatter about it online, I can only assume it works, even if it’s only for brand recognition.
Here are three videos, the first is the actual commercial, the second is the song from Sesame Street and the third is well… for your entertainment.
Enjoy!
